One of the questions I’m often asked is how do I have time to work my side hustle while working my 9-5. I’m not going to lie and say it is super easy. I have to make a full effort to manage my life. These are the 7 Tips to Balance a Side Hustle While Working a 9-5.
Pick a Side Hustle That You Actually Enjoy
If you do not consider your side hustle a “job” or “work” it will be more enjoyable to do. I highly recommend your hustle being an extension of your favorite hobby. This will help create a good balance.

Do More on Your 9-5
I know this may sound questionable. This post is supposed to give you tips on balancing your side hustle and your 9-5. Why am I suggesting doing more on your 9-5? Well, it is simple. You want to make sure you are staying on the right track with your full time job. You do not need anything to interfere with your main job. So with that said, make sure you exceed in your 9-5.
Also, keep in mind that their may be some people who are going to be jealous of you and your side hustle adventure. Some bitter and unhappy people may take it upon themselves to try to report you to your boss. They may make false claims that you are working your side hustle while you are on the clock and/or using company equipment. If those claims are made, your work history will show that in addition to doing your job, you are also exceeding expectations.
Make a Schedule and Stick to It
A failure to plan is indeed a plan for failure. With the multiple planners, agendas, and mobile apps available to you, use these items to create and stick to a schedule. Be realistic and set SMART goals. As Influencer Mattie James always say, “make sure you are planning the work and not just the result.”

Adjust Your Sleep Schedule
We all have the same 24 hours in each day. Consider waking up an hour earlier or staying up an hour later to work on your side hustle. During that time, you can work on your social media, send emails, marketing, or anything business related. While driving to work, you can listen to podcast about your side hustle field. During any idle time, you can be working on your business.

Adjust Your Work Schedule
If your job allows you the flexibility to adjust your work schedule, you should definitely do it. Talk to your manager about working 4 longer days instead of 5 regular days. Having three days off during the week really helps me. I can still have my weekends to spend time with the family and also have another day to work on my business while the world is on a Monday schedule. You may also be able to take an extended lunch break to go on appointments or meetings for your business. On this blog last week, I discussed how I taught my first college course during my lunch break.

Don’t Give Up On Your Side Hustle
There are going to be moments during your journey when you are going to consider giving up. Don’t give up. One of the benefits of having your own business is the flexibility to work your business around your schedule. A healthy balance can include a give and take. If you are involved in a family or 9-5 work project, don’t feel bad to pause your side hustle. It will still be there when your project is done. Don’t stress out about it.
Get Your Family Involved
Your side hustle should not completely take you away from your family. No matter what your side hustle is and how your family dynamic is set up, your family can definitely get involved. If you have a pre-teen or teen, they can help you support your business by liking and sharing your social media posts. They can also assist with making sure you are current on the new trends. Don’t forget to communicate with your spouse. Make sure your spouse is involved with the planning and implementing your business. By helping with your business, that will help balance your entire life and 9-5.
