Although working from home may have tons of advantages and disadvantages, ultimately it can be very productive. If you want to maximize your work from home experience, consider these 7 tips.
Establish Working Hours
Establishing working hours is key to survive working from home. Without the division of work/home time, you may feel like your at work 24/7. Unless you are oncall, you don’t want to give the impression that you are always available for work. Its best to set work and home life boundaries. When you are off work, use that time to spend with your family or for personal relaxation.
Create a Designated Work Space
In addition to establishing your working hours, you will need to designate a separate work space. This workspace can be a seperate room or even a small desk in corner of another room. It is best to have a contained area where you will work and keep your work items.

Don’t Forget to Eat
It’s not uncommon to have different eating habits at home and at work. Many people have a set eating pattern at work. They may have a snack bar or light breakfast along with a cup of coffee at 8:00 am. Take their lunch at 11:00 am. And have an afternoon snack around 2:00 pm. However, when working from home, you may just eat whenever you want and not on a set schedule. Although, this may be fine for the weekends or your day off. But, since you are now working from home 100%, you may want to consider making sure you are eating the proper amounts of food for your body. At the same time, try to avoid sitting and eating the whole duration of your “work” day.
Don’t Forget to Take Short Breaks
When you’re working from home, you are still able to take breaks. Make it a point to get up and stretch periodically throughout the day. You will be more focused and can concentrate on your work if you allow yourself the opportunity to take breaks. If you have a FitBit or an Apple Watch, take advantage of those hourly reminders that encourage you to stand up or take a deep breathe.
Establish Daily Goals
It’s may be impossible to get everything done in one day. At the start of each day (or even the day before), establish your goal for the day. I always talk about setting your top three goals and eating a live frog. Yes, try to tackle your most difficult tasks at the beginning of the day, then after that everything else is easy. When setting goals, make sure they are SMART.

Avoid Housework
I know you did not think “I” would ever tell you to avoid housework. But, working from home doesn’t mean you can sit around and clean your house all day. I would be lying if I told you I never threw a load of clothes in the washing machine or emptied the dishwasher during working hours. However, that is ultimately the extent of my household chores completed during working hours. The keyword to working from home is “work.” In order to successfully work from home, you must avoid the urge to get distracted.
Don’t Forget to Get Dressed
As easy as it would be to roll out of bed to work, try to at least put on fresh clothes to start your day. Not only will getting dressed make you feel better, you will be more productive. There is no need to get fancy, however you should look presentable. Also take into consideration if you are going to have to participate in a conference call or if you are expecting a package to be delivered.

Hi there, I want to thank you for this amazing stuff. Totally agree: many people forget to dress when they are working from home. And that is a great mistake. WFH is the same work as in the office so you must do the same things: dress, keep schedule etc.

Thank you for sharing such helpful content! Another tip for people who work remotely is to fill the home with natural light by opening the curtains. The sun improves the mood and makes people more productive.
