When it comes to kitchen organization, sometimes the biggest impact comes from the simplest change. For me, that change was switching to plain white dishes — and it’s a choice I recommend to everyone in my Weekly Declutter Challenge community.

In this post, I’ll share why I keep just two complete sets of white dishes, how it keeps my kitchen clutter-free, and why this little swap can make every table setting look like it came straight out of a design magazine.
1. White Dishes Match Everything

Whether you’re setting the table for a casual family dinner or hosting a holiday feast, white dishes work with any style or season. Add colorful napkins in the spring, metallic chargers for the holidays, or natural elements for fall — white is the perfect neutral base.
2. They Streamline Your Storage
Having a cabinet full of mismatched plates and random bowls takes up space and makes it harder to grab what you need. By sticking to two matching white sets, everything stacks neatly, fits perfectly, and feels organized. Switching to plain white dishes is a small change with a big impact. It reduces kitchen clutter, simplifies storage, and makes every table setting look polished. I use two complete sets of plain white dishes just like these — they match everything and keep my cabinets clutter-free.

3. Easy to Replace
Life happens — a plate chips, a bowl breaks. When you use white dishes, it’s easy to find replacements at nearly any store without worrying about matching patterns or colors.
4. They Make Food Look Better

White plates let your food take center stage. The clean backdrop enhances colors and textures, whether you’re photographing a meal for Instagram or simply plating dinner for your family.
5. Keeps Entertaining Simple
I keep two complete sets of white dishes — one for everyday use, and one for guests or entertaining. I’m always ready for company without having to store dozens of extra pieces.
My White Dish Tip for Decluttering
If your cabinets are overflowing with dishes, try this:
- Pull everything out and group by type (plates, bowls, mugs).
- Keep your best-quality white dishes (or invest in a matching set).
- Donate duplicates, chipped pieces, or ones you rarely use.
- Store your main set in an easy-to-reach spot, and your second set close by for hosting.
