Do you ever come home from work, exhausted, only to realize you don’t have anything to eat? You don’t have the energy to prepare a meal. Instead, you reach for your cell phone for your favorite food delivery app. You promise yourself that you will be better prepared tomorrow. This is why meal prepping over the weekend is such an amazing thing.
Why Should I Meal Prep on the Weekend?
Meal prepping on the weekends gives you a chance to prepare for the week ahead. Instead of coming home dreading having to decide what to eat, it’s all there for you. All you have to do is put it together and heat it up. If you have already prepared and cooked your meals, all you have to do is reheat it. It can’t get any easier than that.
Does It Matter What Day I Meal Prep?
While it doesn’t really matter what day you meal prep, most people will find Sunday to be the best option. It gives you more time to gather the ingredients, and once made, your food lasts a little longer. Also, it’s a great way to pass a Sunday afternoon!
What Should I Prep?
Deciding what you’re going to prep is an individual thing. We all have different tastes for food, dietary preferences and other factors that would make one person’s prep different from another’s. However, this article will explore the things that we should all keep in mind when meal prepping.

Don’t Forget to Prep Your Snacks
Meal prepping your snacks will ensure you have a well rounded and healthy snack. Instead of randomly selecting a bag of chips or a candy bar, consider a healthy snack such as a KIND bar. Consider KIND‘s subscription service for a easy way to make sure you have all of your favorite snack items. Check HERE to check out KIND, receive 10% off, and free samples.
How Do I Meal Prep?
- Decide the Menu and Buy Ingredients
The first step is to decide what you’re going to eat for the week. It’s possible that you’ll want the same things every day, or switch it up. It’s totally up to you. Once you know what you want to eat, make sure you have the ingredients you’ll need. Consult your recipes and check your cupboard for ingredients. You can plan a visit to the grocery store or purchase your items via grocery delivery on Saturday.
- Measure and Batch Ingredients
Once you have all your ingredients, you’ll want to divide the ingredients up into individual portions and then make the meal. This applies to things like salads, sandwiches and other foods that you aren’t going to cook.
If you’re cooking, you can cook what you are going to eat and divide it later. Just make sure everything is prepped and ready to be cooked.
- Cook Everything You Can
There are some things that you might not be able to prep on Sunday, but whatever you can, do it. Even if you can’t fully put the meals together on that day, making sure everything is cooked and ready to go will save a lot of time and headaches later on.
- Get Out the Meal Prep Containers
Once you have everything ready to go, you can dish it out in your meal in your meal prep containers. Some people like to put each meal in its own container so it’s easy to grab and go. Others will put each ingredient in a container, and combine them later. Whatever method you choose, try to stay as organized as possible so there’s less thinking later.
- Remember: Have Fun with It!
The whole point of meal prepping on the weekends is so you have the energy to make meals at home! Just because it’s work doesn’t mean it needs to be a drag. Put on your favorite music and dance while you chop up your vegetables! Sing really loud as you put your meal in the oven.
Celebrate the amazing job you are doing, and the meals you will enjoy for the next week.
