Someone once said, “You’re only as good as your tools.” If this is correct, let’s be the best we can be with our home DIY tool Kit. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a large estate or a comfy tiny home, these are the 7 things you should have in your home diy tool kit.
Screw Drivers
Make sure you have a Phillips and a flat head screwdriver. Long gone are the days of using a butterknife as a screwdriver. Screwdrivers can come in a set of each or with a changeable slot. I personally feel you should have at least the individual sets, then add the changeable slot set to your collection. The changeable slot set is good for minor projects or doing something small such as changing out light plates. Having a full set of various sizes for both Phillips and flat head is great for a more experience DIYer that wants to be prepared for all tasks.
Measuring Tape
A measuring tape is a must when it comes to almost all aspecting in DIY. Knowing the true size will help avoid costly projects. A measuring tape is also important when it comes to hanging pictures and art on the wall. It’s also helpful when determining where to place furniture, deciding on what size rug to purchase, and even selecting the appropriate window treatment width and length.
Hammer
A hammer is a definite must have. When purchasing a hammer, opt for one with a rubber end. This will add more comfort when handing and also serve as a rubber mallet.
When working on a DIY project, measure three times and cut once. Check out this post for the 7 Must Have Tools for your DIY Home Tool Kit. Click To TweetDrill & Drill Bits
I personally recommend owning both a cordless and corded drill. If purchasing a cordless drill, make sure to opt for one with at least 9.6 volts. Make sure you are using the appropriate bit. Individual drill bits can be used for specific materials such as plastic, wood, tile, etc.
Level
A level is an absolute must have for your home diy tool kit when hanging items such as pictures, mirrors, and art. A level can also be used to determine if your floor or a piece of furniture is level. When hanging kitchen cabinets or trimming a door, you need to determine if a surface is level or plumb. A level will give you an accurate reading.

Guns: Hot Glue and Staple
Being able to attach or adhere items together is a common element in DIY projects. A hot glue gun is great for indoor and outdoor products. It is fast acting and may be the best option for large and small projects. A staple gun is a must have for upholstery projects and outside projects. Both of these guns are must haves.
Tool Bag and Designated Tool Section
What good is having the perfect tools but unable to find them? Consider purchasing a tool bag or designating a place to maintain your tools. An organized tool kit or bag can be hectic when looking for the required tool for a project. Some people have multiples of the exact same item because they are always losing the item. Avoid wasting money on duplicate items. Organize your tools and/or tool space.
