When was the last time you sorted through your stash of soy sauce packets or the pile of mustard tucked in the back of your fridge door? Welcome to Week #29 of the 52-Week Declutter Challenge! This week we’re focusing on something small but mighty: takeout condiments.

These little packets may seem harmless, but they tend to multiply quickly—taking over drawers, fridge shelves, glove compartments, and even purses. And let’s be honest: we often keep them far longer than we should.
Why Takeaway Condiments Deserve a Declutter
We tend to collect these packets with the best intentions. “Oh, I’ll keep this extra soy sauce for later.” “This hot sauce might come in handy.”
But before you know it, your junk drawer is overflowing with sticky packets, and your fridge door is home to a sauce graveyard.
Here’s why it’s time to let go:
You’re probably not using them—especially if you already have full bottles of condiments.
They expire (even if there’s no date on the packet).
They leak, attracting pests and creating sticky messes.
They add unnecessary visual clutter to your kitchen and fridge.
What to Toss (and What to Keep)
Set a timer for 15 minutes and tackle that drawer or fridge door. Here’s a quick breakdown:
🗑️ TOSS IT IF:
- The packet is sticky, crusty, or torn.
- The expiration date has passed (or it looks/smells off).
- You don’t recognize what it is (mystery sauce, anyone?).
- You haven’t used this type of condiment in months.
✅ KEEP IT IF:
- You know you use it regularly (like hot sauce for your tacos).
- It’s clean, sealed, and in good condition.
- You actually reach for it when you need it.
Pro Tip: Create a Condiment Zone
Instead of letting packets float around in chaos, create a dedicated storage solution:
- Use a clear bin or drawer organizer like the one above.
- Label the container “Extras” or “Takeout Packets”
- Store it in your fridge or pantry—out of sight but easy to reach.
Want to get even more streamlined? Ditch the packets altogether and switch to mini squeeze bottles you refill from your full-size sauces. It’s great for packed lunches or road trips.
A Quick Win with a Big Impact
Decluttering takeaway condiments might seem insignificant, but it’s one of those tiny tasks that offers a surprisingly big sense of relief. Less clutter = less stress.
You’ll gain a little space, a little sanity, and a lot of satisfaction.
