3 Easy Ways to Style Your Balcony

September 5, 2017 by Divine Elements of Design 28 Comments

The exterior and balcony of your home should look just as inviting as the interior. It should look fabulous from the inside looking out and the outside looking in. Because this transition is often forgotten when decorating, many people tend to ignore their balcony. Don’t worry, these 3 easy ways can help you style your balcony.

1. Balcony Furniture

First of all, let’s start off with furniture. It does not matter how small or large your balcony is, you can upgrade it with beautiful patio furniture. A nice patio / balcony furniture set can help you achieve your goals of creating an outside living area. Balcony furniture can be metal, plastic, wicker, and any other material which is appropriate for your environment. If your balcony is small in space, consider a single chair with a small table. Almost all small patios have enough space for a little chair. Be creative and think outside the box.

2. Rug & Outdoor Accessories

A fun and functional outdoor rug will work wonders for your outdoor space. Don’t feel the need to settle for a green astro turf style. Be bold and have fun with colors which compliment the inside of your home. In addition to a rug, opt for adding outdoor accessories.  These accessories can also bring your balcony to the next level. I love this wooden shelf which can be used as a planter. This is an awesome way to grow your potted plants outside with the fresh air and sun. As a result, your outdoor accessories can be a reflection of your inside style.

3. Curtains

Consider using sliding door curtains to decorate the sliding door leading to the outside patio. Sliding door curtains works double duty. These special curtains are wider than traditional curtains and specifically designed to fit your sliding glass door. They are available in various textures, styles, colors, and patterns. I’ve recently discovered High End Curtain, an online curtain company which has a large selection of sliding door curtains, hardware, and accessories. These stylish and affordable curtains will make the transition from your indoor living space to your balcony seamless.

Hum… that’s interesting. Lol,, I guess the only way is to keep him off the balcony. Lol, seriously, the struggle is real when you have fur babies.

Too funny! Since I foster a lot of wayward dogs and I’m a designer I thought I would chime in! If your dog destroys things or poops and pres where he shouldn’t, don’t leave him unattended. Behavior that isn’t caught the second it occurs and admonished with a verbal “no” basically reinforces the bad behavior. Getting mad after the fact confuses your dig. They have no concept of past behavior. Rrmember, a tired dog who is stimulated, goes on walks, meets other dogs, is a calm happy dog less likely to cause destruction 🙂

Thanks so much for your advice. What do you suggest for a dog that goes in the backyard unattended, but poops on the concrete patio?

Do you live in a dry and hot area or near the coast? Are you living in the area of heavy rainfall? Answer these questions before buying outdoor furniture. Remember, dry, hot conditions can make wood crack and splinter. Aluminum furniture may not survive in strong wind. Moreover, wicker can’t withstand consistent exposure to dampness.
