Did you do a deep cleaning of your house and found a bunch of stuff in the attic that you have no idea what to do with? Or are you preparing yourself for a deep cleaning but the house is too messy and you don’t even know where to start? Either way we all know too well that after deep cleaning we always end up with things we haven’t used in a long time, or things we have forgotten we had. But somehow, after a good cleaning you have a desire to reorganize some things in your house, do a little makeover of a room or two, or your garden. And isn’t it just great when you find some old furniture or some old decorations that you have forgotten about, and now as you are older you look at it differently. It is the perfect way to do a makeover of your house and to get rid of some things you have been just storing for years. And these are all simple little projects you can be done within one weekend.
First and most important step, gather all the things you have more than one of and say ‘Goodbye’ to them. For example, hairbrushes or phone cases – you do not need ten of them. You have no use for them, offer them to friends, sell them, give them to charity or just throw them away.
Secondly, probably many people can say that they have those old straw or plastic baskets, which our grandparents have probably bought, in their attics. Instead of keeping them in the attic, why not put them to good use. You can store children’s toys in them, gardening tools, and even clothes. You just have to give them a good cleaning first. Dusty empty jars that just take up space can perfectly fit into your kitchen as either vases or storing some food and candy.
Thirdly, if you have a drawer full with all sorts of small things, as I believe many of us do, and it drives you crazy because you can never find anything, a very simple, cheap and good idea is to use a carton of eggs. Instead of throwing it away you can use its little cups to store the tiny things, such as clippers, pins, etc. Or you can even use it for your jewelry, earrings or rings, so they don’t tangle and are easy to find.
If you happen to find some old toys or souvenirs, or anything like that and you just do not want to throw it away because you feel nostalgic, you can simply use them as bookends. Rearrange your books and simply put them in between them.
Organize your garden as well, while organizing your house. Move the old furniture from the attic to the garden. Instead of buying new furniture simply clean or hire someone like LondonHomeCleaners Ltd. to clean it for you and properly arrange the old furniture in the garden and give yourself a nice place to spend your nights with family or friends.
What is more, almost everything can be used as a plant pot. Old jars, food cans, old buckets, etc. Another good use for old unused buckets is store your shower things in it, or your pet’s toys. Just clean it nicely, maybe paint it some funny color, so it seems new and you are set.
And finally, perhaps the most common thing everyone who has decided to organize their home does is sorting everything in plastic see-through containers. You can put shoes, tools, gardening supplies, cooking products, toys, and many other items in the see through containers.
And now you have a clean house, a clean attic, possibly new furniture in your garden, and you have organized and redecorated your house in just one weekend.

Starting spring cleaning this weekend. I really love that feeling of accomplishment.

I try to do a good house purge twice a year. Doing that keeps the house clean and organized. I use to do it more often when the kids where younger but now that we don’t have toys everywhere twice a year seems to be all that needs to be done. Thanks

We have been on a purging spree and it feels so good! The house looks much better and we feel better. Giving to charity and selling a few things has been great also.

I hate having so much stuff in the house especially things with one time use. Hubby thinks its wasteful since I never really let random things see the light on day in our house. But for me that means no big cleanup days or spring cleaning. If its here its serving a purpose lol But the egg carton tip is genius since random things do always find their way in and are sometimes necessary. Thanks for sharing!
