How To Choose the Right Hardware for Your Kitchen

July 5, 2024 by Divine Elements of Design Leave a Comment

As you’re wrapping up your kitchen renovation, adding the right finishing touches can tie the entire room together. One crucial interior design step that often goes overlooked is choosing the right hardware. The knobs, pulls, and handles you select can make or break your kitchen’s look and functionality. In this post, we’ll guide you through the process of choosing the perfect kitchen hardware.

Match Your Kitchen’s Aesthetic

One of the first things to consider when choosing kitchen hardware is how it will look with your existing décor. Do you have a modern kitchen with sleek lines and stainless-steel appliances? Or is your kitchen more traditional with wooden cabinets and warm colors?

Selecting hardware that matches your kitchen’s style ensures a cohesive look. For example, brushed nickel or chrome finishes are great for contemporary kitchens, while brass or antique finishes suit a rustic or classic style.

Consider It’s Function

Aesthetics are important, but you should never compromise functionality. Understanding the difference between knobs and pulls can help you determine what hardware to purchase. Knobs are generally smaller and easier to install and are typically on cabinets. On the other hand, pulls or handles are easier to grasp with your whole hand, making them a better choice for drawers. Consider how you use your kitchen and which piece of hardware would be easier to employ.

Invest In Quality Materials

Kitchen hardware comes in a handful of materials. Regardless of the style, color, and finish of the kitchen hardware you purchase, you should always consider its quality and value. Higher-end materials, such as brass, bronze, and nickel, tend to last longer and can even offer antimicrobial benefits. Choosing a more decorative material, such as crystal or ceramic, can compromise its longevity. Good-quality hardware can withstand frequent use and resist tarnishing, ensuring it looks great for years to come.

Determine The Right Size For The Hardware

Size is another crucial factor to consider. The wrong size hardware can make your cabinets and drawers more difficult to use or look proportionally off. Before you can choose a knob or pull size, you must determine its placement. This can make it easier to visualize what size hardware looks best without sacrificing functionality. When in doubt, take measurements and mark your drawers and cabinets with painter’s tape to see how the hardware will look in your space.

Choosing the right hardware for your kitchen is more than just a finishing touch; it’s a key decision that can enhance both your space’s look and functionality. Replacing outdated hardware is a simple DIY project that can elevate your kitchen’s appearance instantly.
