In order to maximum your work at home productivity, there are a few simple items you must have for your home office. I am no stranger to creating productive home offices. In this post, I will share my 7 Must Have Items For Your Home Office.
A Designated Home Office Space
In an ideal world or perfect universe, all homes will have a separate home office. Unfortunately, that may not be realistic for most people. Especially for people who may have been involuntarily forced into working from home due to the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic.
You don’t have to have a seperate room to work from home. However, I do recommend designating a space to work from home. That space can be at a kitchen table, corner in the living room, closet, or even a hallway. Whatever you do, try to not work on your bed in your bedroom. You should want to keep your “work” out of your relaxation place. Many people don’t want to work from home because they do not want to bring their work home. But by creating a designated work space, you can keep those work items in that area and be able to leave it when you are “off the clock”.
Check out this video on how I converted a closet into a home office.
A Good Chair
A good chair is important for your posture, breathing, and eyesight. Your chair needs to provide good lumbar and pelvic support. Many people wonder if there is a difference between using an office chair or a chair without arms. Although an office chair may be best, it’s technically up to you to decide which chair is more comfortable for you. Studies show that 86% of office workers say that it’s their chair that makes working uncomfortable. If possible ask your employer if you can take one of the chairs from the office to your home.

A Home Office Desk or Working Surface
When creating your home office experience, you will need to have some form of a desk. A solid horizontal space is necessary for holding your computer, phone, and as a writing surface. There are several different options you can use as a desk if a traditional desk is unavailable. Your dining room table may make a perfect desk. However, if needed, consider some non-traditional spaces. A dinner tray, coffee table, bar table, or even a makeup table can be a desk.

Plenty of Light
Light is important for your home office. Not only do you need light to see, but it is also healthy and can affect your mood. Try to maximize the use of natural light. Pull back your window treatments or open a door if possible. Great light can also be achieved by overhead light, task lights, or a floor lamp.
Outlets and Plugs
In our digital age of electronics, the proper amount of outlets and/or plugs is absolutely a necessary home office function. For my own desk, I have to have an available plug for my phone, cell phone, computer(s), ipad, scanner, adding machine, Amazon Alexa, and coffee cup warmer. Although I have multiple outlets, I still need additional outlets. I am currently using this 5 foot power strip. It has 6 outlets and 4 USB slots. For only $15.99, it’s a lifesaver.
An Aesthetically Pleasing Home Office
No one wants to feel as if they are working in a jail cell or in a hole. You should definitely take time to make sure your work space looks nice. Be create and display a beautiful picture, colorful plant, or pleasant smelling candle. I absolutely love the orange and pink color palette I’m using in my home office.
Home Office Storage
Your home office should have adequate storage for your work files and equipment. All work items should be properly secured and not easily accessed by child, pets, or outside guests. You definitely do not want someone writing on your work files while looking for a piece of paper.

Great tips! Another great way to bolster productivity and add some cheer to your office is to include some leafy friends around your workplace. Just like office snacks, office plants are a cost-effective way to brighten up your team’s workday and even improve productivity.

Its true. A good chair is essential. I never thought much about it, but when my back started aching, I took it seriously. Doctor strictly told me to use a good chair and take care of my posture. Trust me, It was the worst time and I couldn’t work for fifteen days. So, yeah investing in a good chair is essential. Do you recommend any specific brand or type of chair?
