Winter is here, and it’s the perfect season to work on organizing your home’s storage—especially your garage. With the holiday season arriving, you must have a clean and organized garage so that you can easily store decorations, winter gear, and other items. We’ve put together a list of four tips for organizing your garage this winter that will help you transform your cluttered garage into an organized space.
Sort and Declutter
The first step in organizing your garage is to sort out all the clutter. Take everything out of your garage and start sorting items into groups—tools, decorations, seasonal items, and so on. You can place the items outside if the weather is nice enough or designate a temporary storage and sorting spot inside your home. If you’re worried that these items might stain carpet or scuff hardwood, place a protective blanket down. Once you have everything sorted, start decluttering. Donate or sell any items that you no longer use or need.

Use Heavy Duty Storage Shelves
Once you know everything you want to keep, you can start organizing it. Investing in heavy-duty shelves is key to organizing your garage. Strong storage shelves like the KV 82/182 heavy-duty series can support heavier items and keep them off the ground, which gives you more floor space. You can use these shelves to store tools, bins for decorations, and other items.
Install Wall Mounted Racks
Another great way to create more floor space in your garage is with wall-mounted racks. You can use these racks to store bikes, shovels, rakes, garden hoses, and other bulky items that take up too much floor space. Smaller racks can hang lighter items like gardening tools, hats, and jackets so that nothing clutters your floor.
Label Everything
Finally, remember to always label everything. When you start organizing your garage, it’s easy to forget where you put certain items. Labeling everything will help you easily find what you’re looking for. Also, if someone else ever needs to find something in your garage, like a neighbor borrowing a tool, it makes the search process easier for them. You can use masking tape, a label maker, or even just a permanent marker to label your boxes and shelves.
