Are you involved in direct sales and want to take your business to the next level. Well, you are in the right place. I have worked several direct sales business but my most profitable one was Tupperware. Within my first 12 months, I was an executive manager and driving a company vehicle. Read this post for my tips on taking your direct sales business to the next level.
Treat it Like a Business
Treat your direct sales like a business because it is your business. Make sure you are representing yourself as the business. Always be prepared. Make sure you are carrying your business cards in your bag along with a catalog. You should also have a small informational kit for new recruits. When I was a Tupperware executive manager, I kept a new consultant kit in my car. I wore my Tupperware pin at all times. When someone asked me about Tupperware, I was more than prepared to discuss it with them.
Be Active Social Media Page
Everyone including my 74 year old mother is on social media. Create a social media page directly for your business. On this page, you can show pictures of your products, make announcements about sales, and also shots of you using the product. The product will definitely speak for itself.
Create a Facebook Group
If you had success in having a social media page for your business, your next step is to create a Facebook group. Like the commercial says, “There is a Facebook group for anything.” The group can be more personal then the regular page. In the group, you can share special tips and offers. Make the group members feel special, but don’t be spammy. As you meet clients, invite them to the group.
Take Your Parties to The Next Level
Almost everyone loves the parties, but they can easily become stale. Try to find ways to make your parties stand out from the rest. Try to combine different presentation techniques to make your party interesting. If the attendees for an upcoming party recently attended another party with a different host, try to make the new party a completely different experience. A consultant’s goal is to make multiple parties. Therefore you need to make sure they are different and people will still want to attend it.

Don’t Be Pushy to Family or Friends
While I am the first person to agree that your family and friends should support you, I also know that friends and family can also become overwhelmed with all of the invites. Don’t force your family and friends to have a party if they do not want to. There are many other free ways they can support your business. Social media shares, referrals, and simply just being available are all free things your family and friends can do to support your business. Don’t make them feel bad for not purchasing a product or not having a party.
Solve a Problem
Determine what problem your direct sales business/product can solve for a potential client. For example, I promoted the Modular Mates line in Tupperware to women who wanted to organize their lives. At that time, I lived in Hawaii. Due to Hawaii’s temperature and climate, it was common for some products such as flour to go bad. I promoted the air tight Modular Mates containers to people who were concerned about keeping their food products fresh. No matter what your business is, you should be able to find a problem to solve.
Attend Meetings & Training
Training are very important for information and motivation. It is also a great opportunity to meet with your group and learn about new products and techniques for sellings. I always felt highly motivated when I left our weekly meetings.
Support Other Businesses
Be as supportive to other businesses as you would want someone to be supportive of yours. Promote other businesses as well as you promote yourself. There are millions of people in the world and less businesses. As Mattie James always say, there is a McDonalds, Burger King, Guy’s Burgers, Wendy’s and many other burger places all of the same street. Neither one of them are lacking business. It is enough business to go around. My motto is “community over competition.”
Combine Services
Is there a way you can combine the things you sell in your direct sales business with a service? Are you a Mary Kay consultant? Consider providing the makeup for a photoshoot. Are you a Pampered Chef consultant? Consider teaching a cooking demonstration class where people bring their items and you all prepare them together. Be creative and think of ways to combine your products and services for potential clients.
Join a Mastermind Group
Connect with other professionals within various fields. It’s perfectly fine to connect with other small business owners and direct sales businesses to brainstorm ideas. It is great to have an accountability partner or partners. Feel free to join my Divine Mastermind Facebook group.
Use Influencers
It doesn’t matter if you have little to no promotional budget, you can find up and coming influencers to help promote your business. Provide the influencer with your item in exchange for social media posts, mentions, and pictures you can use on your own networks.
Giveaways / Silent Auctions
You are never too new or too small to offer an item or gift certificate for a giveaway or a silent auction. This can be an excellent opportunity for you to get your name and product out to the community. In addition to providing the item to the winner, you are also making yourself known to everyone involved with the event. If someone is in need of your services, they will remember you and hopefully will contact you instead of searching for someone online.
I hope you found these tips useful. What is your direct sales business? Are you already implementing any of these actions? Please feel free to ask any questions or leave your suggestions and comments in the comment section.
