Do you want to have a successful day? It doesn’t matter if you are a student, professional, or stay at home mom. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. Often, when we wake up in the morning, we may feel overwhelmed with all of the items we have on our agenda. These 7 suggestions will help eliminate some of the stress we feel when our alarm goes off in the morning. They will help you have a successful tomorrow.
Prepare Your Clothes
Get your clothes ready the night before. Take a few minutes out of your evening to decide exactly what you are going to wear for the next day. Determine if you need to iron anything, find that special accessory, or even try on something you may not have worn for a while. By getting your clothes (under, outer, and shoes) ready the night before, you will not have to spend useful time in the morning looking for an article of clothing that you may have misplaced, put in the cleaners, or simply not available.
Pack Your Lunch & Work Bag
Pack your work or lunch bag. If you have a work or school bag, pack it with all of the items needed for the next day. Don’t wait until you are running out of the house to sign a permission slip for a field trip or to put an important document you may need in your work bag. By having your bag packed the night before, that is one less thing that you have to worry about doing in the morning or potentially forgetting.
It’s also great to have a routine of just picking up your bag (which will be in the designated area) in the morning before walking out of the door. If you pack a lunch for yourself or your child, you may pack the non perishable items in the lunch bag and sit it on the counter. The refrigerated items can also be assembled together in the refrigerator and ready to be tossed in the lunch bag in the morning.
Identify Three Tasks
Determine the top three things you would like to accomplish tomorrow. Of course, we all have a list of 99 items we need to do. Simply determine the top 3 things the night before. In the morning, you can tackle those items first. Once completed, you will have less stress and can adequately complete other items on your to-do list if needed.
Relax
Relax your mind before going to bed. If you can, don’t just jump in the bed after a long day of work. Try to schedule a little down time to unwind. Drinking a glass of hot tea or warm milk, relaxing in a bathtub, and reading a few pages out of your favorite novel is an excellent way to relax before going to bed.
Don’t Snooze on Having a Successful Day
Set your alarm clock for the time you need to get up. Don’t allow for “snoozing” time. We all have been guilty of setting our alarm for a certain time, but deep down we know we are going to hit “snooze” until the last minute. By doing so, this only interrupts our full potential sleeping time. Ultimately, it does us more harm than good.
Avoid Looking at The Time
Cover up the light on your cable box, clock, or cell phone. At night, we may wake up several times and look at the time. When we look at the time, we are mentally calculating how much time we have left to sleep. We are wasting time and energy by doing so. If we know we will not be able to see the clock when we wake up in the middle of the night, we will just keep our head down and go back to sleep sooner. We will not waste time trying to calculate the time in our heads, causing us to stress out while we are supposed to be sleeping.
Develop A Schedule for a Successful Day
Developing and sticking to a morning routine is great for time management. After you’ve implemented and mastered your morning routine, you should have less surprises in the morning. Perhaps, you may even become a happy morning person.

TERRIFIC BLOG AND VERY HELPFUL. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE ENERGY BEING WAISTED ON CALCULATING THE NUMBER OF HOURS YOU HAVE TO SLEEP BEFORE THE ALARM GOES OFF…

This was a really good article. I never thought of making a list of three things I would like to accomplish the next day, that’s a good one and new.
I’ve read that about the alarm clock and no snoozing, but I will never get rid of that routine of mine because it not only allows me to really wake up, but in between the alarms, I am able to plot things (good things, not the 6pm news type of things), and with me trying to do more with my blog, I am able to mull things over in my head.
Getting my clothes ready the night before was instilled in me by my mother and I do it til this day, even on weekends, I get my play (non-work) clothes ready if I know I’m going somewhere the next day.
Relaxing the mind before bed is an excellent tip. I read in bed, yes with a tablet (I have the Fire HD 6 from Amazon and it makes for a great reading device). Reading allows me to get involved in someone else’s problems and leave mine for a bit.
Suggestion: Put your comment link at the end of your post so people see it and are more likely to comment. I read the post, but had to find the comment link.
Overall, as mentioned, I really like this article. You have a new follower. Looking forward to more articles from you.

Nikki, thank you very much for such a well thought out response to my blog post. I’m glad you enjoyed reading it. As far as your suggestion, thank you very much for informing me that the comment section is a bit difficult to access by readers. That is definitely something I will have to revise. Thanks and have a Divine Day!!!

Last night I laid out my workout clothes so I wouldn’t be fumbling for them at 5:45am…but I still need to add the actual office attire to my schedule. I also covered the clock on my nightstand and when I woke up and wanted to look I pleasantly drifted right back off to sleep until my alarm went off. I packed my lunch but still didn’t eat it. I went out with a coworker instead then felt guilty that I spent money that I didn’t have to. So that will not happen again. My next plan of action is the top 3 to-do list. Thanks for the info! It really does help!

Awesome. All the information is on point, I’m actively retired and less free time than when I worked. Scheduling is something I did not do, I am going to undertake the mission of organizing. Thanks, it will be a divine experience. Keep up the great work.

I agree! I’m a morning person so I get up early and prepare myself and my family for the day before they wake up. The key to making that all happen is your last tip – sticking to a morning routine. I hadn’t thought to lay out the clothes though, thanks for that one.

Thanks for stopping by. It’s nice to hear from someone who prepares for the next day the night before. Yes, getting clothes together the night before, is a game changer. Have a great week.

Great tips. Especially writing down the 3 most important things for the next day. Always makes me feel ready for the next day if I take the time to figure out the most important things to accomplish.

Thanks for stopping by. Identifying my top three is one of my favorite planning tactics.

Wonderful tips! I love the idea of selecting 3 top tasks to accomplish daily. My to do list is a mile long so this would help me out a lot!
Divine Elements of Design says
Yes, my daily to do list is a mile long as well. But designating the top three ensures those priority items get done.

I love this list. I used to do most of this but somehow I’ve lapsed in a big way!
