7 Easy Hacks for Holiday Decorating on a Budget

December 15, 2015 by Divine Elements of Design 27 Comments

Decorating for the holidays doesn’t mean you have to break the bank. The holidays are about family, friends, and gratitude. There are many very affordable options for decorating your home on a budget. The items in this list can be purchased at your local discount store. Have fun and be creative.

wreath

  1. Red and White Candy Canes – In addition to being a tasty treat, candy canes may be used to decorate your home for the holidays. Hang candy canes throughout your home.
  2. Pine Cones – Pine cones are fun and creative. Use them in bowls and vases for holiday decorating. It’s also fun to bring outside elements into the home.
  3. Plastic or Acrylic Chargers – Purchase inexpensive plastic or acrylic chargers in holiday colors. These chargers will add a punch of color to your table. They can also be used under candles, plates, or as a decorative collective tray.
  4. DIY Ornaments – Make your own decorative ornaments using inexpensive clear ornaments, mop and glow (to coat the inside of the ornament), and extra fine glitter in the color of your choice. This is an excellent way to make custom colored ornaments to match your holiday decorations.
  5. Popcorn – Making popcorn strings can be a fun (and yummy) family activity. These strings can be hung around your tree, fireplace, windows, and other areas of the home.
  6. Ribbon – Use inexpensive ribbon to make bows.
  7. DIY Centerpiece – Put a string of lights, pebbles, and a decorative candle in a large clear vase. Place them throughout your home. Feel free to make as many centerpieces as you need.

These are fantastic tips! I love DIY decor with pinecones especially. You can do so much with them (of course I’m partial to glitter, lol).

Pinecones are also great fire starters in the fireplace. The Dollar Tree has some cute stuff for $1.00. I got some cute Halloween and Fall stuff from there.

I don’t usually do a lot of decorating for holidays, but this year I have wanted to. I love your thrifty hacks! I know I have the supplies so I can make a pretty centerpiece.

This list is great! Holiday decorations can be outrageously over priced. I always buy mine at Goodwill. 🙂
