Having a clutter free home does not have to be a chore. It is never too late to establish habits which can help us maintain a clutter free home and living. Try to implement these proven six habits.
Remove Excess Items
It is so easy to have more items than we actually need. Sometimes we have extra things because items were on sale, given to us, or we simply just wanted them. These extra things tend to take up too much visual and physical space in our homes. In addition to our homes being cluttered, it can also cause problems in our work and relationships. Our home is supposed to be a relaxing haven. It can be difficult if we fear returning to our homes each day.
Remove Duplicate Items
Establish a limit on how many of a particular item you may need. Do you really need 20 coffee cups, 30 t-shirts, or 40 bed sheets. No you do not. Having multiples of items that you don’t need takes up valuable space. It is also impossible to appreciate the things you do have them if you are overwhelmed by multiples of items.
Stop Buying Things You Don’t Need
I know it’s easier said than done to stop buying things. Especially when Amazon.com has everything we could possibly ever imagine. Before you make your next purchase, ask yourself the following questions: Do you really need the item? Does this item replace another item? Do you have a physical location to put the item? Will this item bring you joy? I always say to myself, “if it’s not a hell yeah, it’s a hell no.”
Return Items After Each Use
Do you remember your mom always telling you to put your toys away? Well, that advice should be used in your home today. Try to get into the habit of always putting away items after each use. Your clothes, shoes, supplies, hair care products, and anything else you use should always be put up. I try to never leave a room empty handed. That way, I am always putting things up.
Clean Your Kitchen Daily
Maintaining a clean kitchen is a very important key to having a clutter free home. Most kitchens are visibly seen from the common areas of your home. If your kitchen is dirty or filled with dirty dishes and take out containers, it will make your home look cluttered. If you can get into the habit of cleaning your kitchen daily, it will help you maintain a clutter free home.
Make Up Your Bed Daily
It only takes less than three minutes to make up your bed daily. Don’t feel pressured into making it perfect with all of the pillows. You can simply just pull the sheets and blanket up to look presentable. There is something about a made up bed that makes the bedroom look better.
Create Routines
Routines help establish clutterfree habits in your home. Feel free to use your paper planner or cell phone to create routines. I use Alexa via my Echo Dot to create daily routines. These routines help me stay organize and remind me to do certain things at a particular time.
