Although 2016 was historic, our home decor doesn’t have to look historic. For the sake of your home’s decor, please leave theses 7 decorating trends in 2016.

Oversized / Too Much Furniture

The grand idea of living in a furniture gallery has past. We no longer have the need to completely fill our rooms with wall to wall furniture. Having too many large or oversized furniture pieces can cause visual clutter in your home. It is hard to see the nice items we want to display when there are so many things shown. Instead of overcrowding our rooms, 2017 begs for a simpler and minimalist home decor choice.
Accent Walls
Accent walls were once an ever popular home decor option for your paint. People were creative, but often went overboard with having a different bold and random colors in each room of their homes. If done wrong, it made each room look like it belonged in a completely different home. It also made the home look like the inside of a crayon box. Instead of trying to have each of your favorite colors in your home. Opt for a subtle and unique transition between each room. You can still have a positive flow and while being creative with your accents and window treatments.
Chevrons

I love chevrons and other patterns as much, if not more than the average person. But in 2016, my eyes experienced chevron overload. I couldn’t open a magazine or the door of a home without seeing tons of chevrons. I’m not saying to discontinue the use of patterns completely. I’m only recommending limiting the patterns. Every room does not need chevron curtains, pillows, rugs, etc..
Matchy Matchy Furniture

It was once considered standard to purchase every item in a set. Your living room would contain a sofa, love seat, and accent chairs in the same pattern and style. Your headboard, night stands, chest, and dresser completely matched as well. Although this decorating style makes it easy to shop for, it lacks creativity. You don’t have to settle for the items in a particular set. Be unique and creative. Instead of being matchy matchy, opt for different pieces that reflect your families personality. Your home should look like it belongs to you and not a furniture store’s display.

Exposed TV Cords

Tube televisions are almost completely obsolete. In fact, I think they are now considered extinct. With the lowering cost of flat screen tvs, people are buying them like hot cakes and mounting them on the wall. One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes hung tvs are the exposed cords. Many people feel its easy to find someone to hang the TV, but they often forget to have the cords hidden in the walls or to simply have an electrician add an outlet behind the TV. In 2017, let’s make sure our tv cords are not exposed.
Uncomfortable Dining Chairs

Typically, dining room or kitchen chairs were uncomfortable. Sometimes these chairs were made from wood and/or hard leather. In addition to being hard to the touch, it was also hard to look out. In 2017, I’m seeing more comfortable chairs. In addition to chairs, people are opting for padded benches and even settees for seating in the dining room and kitchen. These comfortable seating areas allow for longer times to seat and entertain with family and friends.

Thanks for sharing this post. I really loved your post. I was confused for my new home decor. Can you please suggest me for wall tapestries? I had some attractive and beautiful Queen Mandala Tapestry for wall hangings.
