Your patio should be an outdoor extension of your home. It should serve as a place for relaxation and to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. I love bringing the interior elements to the outside to create an outdoor living area. The following five ways can help you update your patio for spring.
Make Updates to Your Patio Furniture
Just like our interior furniture, it’s always a great option to update our patio furniture. You can either purchase new furniture, paint or stain the base of your furniture, or add new pieces to an existing set. You’ll be surprised how adding a new item can create an entirely different and fresh look. You should also consider using a product like Star Brite Patio and Furniture Protectant to protect your furniture investment from the outside elements. It can also be used to fading and cracking.
New Pillows and Cushions
I love adding new pillows to my patio furniture. You can completely update and change the look of your patio furniture by adding pillows. Consider using pillows which are a similar pattern or theme as your living room furniture. Adding similar styled pillows will make the flow from your home to the outside space more seamlessly. Stores like Amazon and At Home have an excellent selection of nicely priced pillows and cushions.
Faux Plants
Yes, yes, yes… it is not a faux pas to add artificial plants to the outside of your home. Although plants typically grow well outside, I want my patio to look beautiful with minimum upkeep. It’s ok to have artificial trees and plants mixed together on your patio. It doesn’t have to be an “all or nothing” effort. You can have two artificial plants along with your collection of real plants. If the real ones don’t look as nice or on the verge of dying, you’ll at least have the artificial ones for a beautiful visual effect. Even Oprah has artificial florals in her home.
When decorating your patio with artificial plants, make sure to use plants which are appropriate for your outdoor's temperature. Click To TweetSeasonal Patio Decor
Seasonal decor items such as planters, stakes, and accent pieces are excellent ideas for bringing a festive appeal to a patio. Don’t be afraid to celebrate the different seasons and holidays with decor on your patio. If you have a table or bar, consider using seasonal table setting or stemware. Be creative and have fun.

Outdoor Lights
Many people forget about outdoor lights when decorating their patio. Lights can be a very easy way to add a punch of style to your patio. A sting of fun lights, a beautiful outdoor ceiling fan, or even a creative display of tiki lights is an easy way to add personality to your outdoor space. In addition to being a beautiful decor piece, it can also provide light for times when the sun is not cooperating or for evening entertainment.
I hope you enjoyed these tips on how to update your patio for spring. I would love to hear some of the ways you update your patio. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below.

We are revamping our patio space this year, love your tips. I will definitely be adding some faux greenery and decor items when I get home. Our cushions seem to take a beating every year, I am going to check out that protectant spray too!

Hey Nakeya,
Absolutely love the shots you took. It’s really tough to say there’s one specific item that makes all the difference.
But yeah, sprucing it up and giving it a new look is fun indeed! A new lively rug will add a nice touch too, don’t you think?
Thanks for your inspiration! 🙂

Green trees, red tape. While a tree is part of one’s property, the decision to remove a tree does not always belong entirely to the homeowner.
